Subject: More assistance for Grenada’s Fishermen

Thursday 29th December 2005, St. George’s: The Government of Grenada in recognising the important role that the fishing industry plays in the nations economy, has seem it fit to come to the aid of the nations fishermen with some financial assistance to get their boats operational once more. Cabinet on December 12th 2005 has approved some $462,880.00 of assistance to fishermen whose boats were damage during the passage of Hurricanes Ivan and Emily. The funds would be disbursed by a voucher system based on the submission of invoices certified by fisheries officers for the items needed to repair the boats. Financial assistance is also given in the amount of $16,598.13 in grants to fishermen who already went ahead and had their boats repaired. The funds are expected to be made available early in the New Year. |
