May 25, 2010

Dear Ms. Marecheau,
2010 is a critical year in determining which development pathways our world wills pursue.
In 2000, UN Member States agreed to the Millennium Declaration and committed themselves to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.

On 20-22 September 2010, the General Assembly will hold, in New York, a High-level Plenary Meeting, also referred to as the “MDG Summit.” The Summit’s main focus will be to build on what we have learned during the past 10 years since the adoption of the Millennium Declaration and how to accelerate progress towards the internationally agreed development goals, in particular MDGs. The Summit will take stock of the successes, best practices, lessons learned, obstacles and gaps related to the MDGs and other development goals.

As part of the process leading to the Summit, the General Assembly will also convene Interactive Hearings with representatives of NGOs, Civil Society and the Private Sector from June 14-15. The outcomes of these hearings will provide an input to the preparatory process for the Summit and be issued as an Assembly document.

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs has cordially invited three representatives from the Caribbean Association for Youth Development to the Informal Hearings to be held at the UN Headquarters in New York, they are Ms. Casandra Mitchell, Mr. Lyndon St. Cyr and Ms. Kasandra Mitchell.

We are humbly requesting the assistance of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment in securing funding for our travel and subsistence, as well as our visa arrangements, where applicable.

As we journey into the new year, bringing hope to our region’s youth and restoring the human capital to the centre of the production process runs parallel to the related notion of making the improvement in the quality of life which is the major object of youth development.

We are certain that our proactive efforts will be a major mechanism, along with partnership with governments, private and public sectors, other NGOs and the international community, each interacting with the other on the basis of mutual respect, trust and transparency in the conduct of affairs, will encourage greater productivity, self-development, social integration and economic growth in the lives of our youth.

I have attached a copy of the confirmation letter from the United Nations for you to consider

I am available for a meeting at your convenience and can be contacted at 473-538-4260.

We look forward to working with you as we seek to meet the needs of our young people in the Caribbean and hope that with your assistance, we can continue to be the change we wish to see in the lives of our youth.

Sincerely,
